ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN [FOUR] - GATEWAY

 

[2012] CONCEPT - Balance. The city is in need of identity (status). To the south of the city, a range of phenomenal architectural buildings have patiently developed. But to the north there is no new proposals and even though it is the second most important gateway into the city it has been left to dilapidate. The city is unbalanced with possibilities flooding the south. The new convention centre wil have a visual, as well as a tectonic implementation, that draws its inspiration from the Hapo Museum. The city will be balanced.

 

CONCEPT FOR THE CONVENTION CENTRE AND THE HOTEL - By transforming, activating and bridging its opposing street edges, Paul Kruger Street will become a catalyst for regenerating the north of Pretoria. It should attract new intervention, creativity and sustainable technology. A mixed used building will attract a diversity of people.  A gateway when approaching pretoria from the north.
