ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN [TWO] - IDENTITY

[2010] PROJECT - You have been commissioned to design a new visitor’s information centre and museum on the south-eastern corner of scheiding and paul kruger streets. The council wants this to be a place that they can be proud of. A building which, like the Victorian Hotel for instance, or Baker’s station building, may have a significance of its own.

CONCEPT [PEDESTRIAN DISTRIBUTE] - A gateway-forming entrance on the west and south side to control, distribute and welcome the mass pedestrian traffic coming from church square and the station. Lifting the building allows movement to a more private space, but still living out to the streets. People will once again rub shoulders and together take ownership of their community.
